In 2024, Pirelli becomes the exclusive tire supplier in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes, but in the future MotoGP could also be on the horizon. Michelin has been the sole brand since 2016, with a contract until 2026, succeeding Bridgestone.
Criticisms of the tire performance have been growing, with riders expressing their dissatisfaction several times throughout the season. However, it is also true that manufacturing identical tires for all and that suit very different bikes is an almost impossible mission.
According to the site SPEEDWEEK.com, Dorna hopes that by entering Moto2 and Moto3, Pirelli may be preparing to make the leap to MotoGP in 2027 – gaining experience beyond just “showing service.” If this happens, in the future riders from all three categories may end up using tires from the same manufacturer.
