Next year, MotoGP will have an American team in the grid – Trackhouse Racing – and in the future there will also be two Grand Prix races in the United States of America. Currently, there is only competition in Austin, but until 2015 there were two rounds in the country – and up to three, as was the case until 2013. Now, Dorna is looking to expand its presence in the USA, a vital market with great potential as Formula 1 has shown.
Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing, revealed to Sky MotoGP: ‘It will have to be like this, the first conversation I had with Dorna is that now there will be a second Grand Prix race in the northern United States‘.
The Italian commented afterwards: ‘I know you are working to expand our entry into the USA. Formula 1 has a great advantage because it can compete in cities, we cannot and we have to follow alternative paths. I think we have a unique show, in the past we had many American champions and who knows if in the future there will not be another one with Trackhouse and Aprilia‘.
