Miguel Oliveira completed the first free practice session of the MotoGP Indian GP in 17th position. It was the first contact with the Buddh International Circuit, as was the case with the other riders. Therefore, the duration was 1h10 instead of the usual 45 minutes.
The Portuguese rider from CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team started with a sequence of eight flying laps in which he consistently improved until finishing in 1m48s. After a pit stop, he returned to the track and continued to improve to reach 1m47s – now with used tires.
For a final stint with four flying laps, Oliveira opted for two new tires and progress was evident once again. It was here that he set his best time – 1m47.419s. It wasn’t enough to go beyond 17th, finishing 1.429s behind leader Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team/Ducati).
Also, his teammate was far from the Portuguese – Raúl Fernández set the fourth fastest time, being over a second quicker. However, it is important to note that in this FP1, lap times are secondary, as it is one of the two free practice sessions that do not count towards defining the riders directly qualified for the second phase of qualifying.
