The Valencia GP marked Pol Espargaró’s farewell from MotoGP as a full-time rider, as he will take on the role of KTM test rider, giving up his seat to Pedro Acosta. Aleix Espargaró admitted to being quite emotional after the last race of the season, knowing his brother’s future.
‘Pol has always been my idol, even though I am older than him. When we entered the world championship, he was immediately very fast, won races, and claimed the Moto2 title,’ said to MotoGP microphones, unable to hide the tears:
– I have always been by his side, so today was very emotional. On the grid, I went to hug him and couldn’t help but cry before the race. It wasn’t easy.
They ended up riding together in the last kilometers on the track, which was something special: ‘The last lap with him was very pleasant. This year was very tough, because you can’t imagine how much Pol suffered and we, his family, suffered a lot with him’.
