In the upcoming season, there will be a new development concessions system in MotoGP, where manufacturers are divided into four tiers based on their results, with the possibility of changes mid-season. Tier A, where Ducati is located, has the most testing and development restrictions, in contrast to Tier D where Honda and Yamaha are placed.
Carlos Ezpeleta, sports director of Dorna, explained to SPEEDWEEK.com the reason why these changes were introduced: ‘We always prefer a consensus where all parties agree. We would like to thank all partners involved for the sensible development of the system. Probably the current system was a bit outdated‘.
Grateful to the constructors for understanding the situation, the Spanish rider argued that the concept introduced for 2024 is more logical for the current MotoGP: ‘It is a completely revamped system of concessions where the performance of the constructors is evaluated at a certain moment. I believe it makes much more sense. It may be a little difficult for fans to understand at first, but the outcome of the regulations will be very positive for the championship’.
