The 2023 MotoGP season was marked by many crashes and injuries. Marc Márquez was one of those affected and, at the end of the season, he broke his own record for crashes: 29 in the 17 rounds he competed in.
Previously, the Spanish rider already held the record for most crashes by a single rider in the same year, when he fell 27 times in 2017. Incidents in practice, qualifying, and races are counted. According to the newspaper Marca, this year there were 29 crashes. The second rider who crashed the most in 2023 was Joan Mir, Márquez’s teammate at Repsol Honda, who had 24 incidents.
This may be proof of how necessary it was to push the pace with the RC213V, one of the least competitive bikes in the field. Additionally, Márquez acknowledged that it was an unpredictable bike – which, naturally, does not make it easier to control in all situations.
