Jorge Martín was one of the riders, if not the rider, who stood out the most this season in MotoGP, but not always for the best reasons. While on one hand he showed an absolutely magnificent ability to recover ground on Pecco Bagnaia, he also had a couple of moments that ended up ruining his title race, believes.
The Spaniard began by saying, after what he experienced in 2023, with a wish: ‘I hope that next season improves, learns, and can enjoy from the first race,’ before talking about some of the moments that turned out to be crucial in not winning the championship, with two races and rounds in mind:
– Well, I would say not just one race – maybe two. I would say perhaps Indonesia and Australia, which were races where the balance shifted from a 30-point lead to a 27-point deficit.
Afterwards he admitted that the fault was, perhaps even due to some overconfidence at the time: ‘I think that was the point. Maybe the fact of being too good at that time gave me too much confidence and I said: “Okay, I can go out with five seconds, I can win with another tire, I can win with whatever I want”. We are in MotoGP and we can’t do that. We have to be very aware of where we are and try to always be with the same tools as our rivals’.
The championship, it is recalled, was decided in the last race of the season, with Bagnaia winning his second world title, the second consecutive one.
