Pol Espargaró retired from the MotoGP World Championship this season, as he did not have a spot for 2024. He remains with KTM in a behind-the-scenes role, with possible wildcard appearances next year.
In an interview with the Relevo website, the Spanish rider admitted that he is approaching the end of his sporting career: ‘Maybe it’s not the complete end, but it’s definitely the beginning of the end. But, well, it’s time to be happy with everything I’ve done over the past few years‘.
Although he acknowledges his sporting achievements, Espargaró still feels fortunate for the career he has had: ‘It’s clear that what allowed me to be here are the results and being competitive, but probably there are many riders who are competitive and who at most do not have the opportunity that I had, so I feel very lucky‘.
Now that he has left the platoon, #44 is going through a transition period, as he stated: ‘First, it’s time to recover myself, to recover my physical state and regain what I was in terms of confidence and physical appearance, and even a little in quality of life. Spending more time with myself, with my family’.
