It is undeniable that, in recent years, Spanish motorcycling has grown significantly. There are more and more top riders in MotoGP or making their way there. Marc Márquez was one of the first great examples, but there are others like Jorge Martín, Pedro Acosta, Fermín Aldeguer, Daniel Holgado, among many others.
Jorge Martínez Aspar works with several young talents at the Aspar Team. In an interview with the site SPEEDWEEK.com, the manager spoke about the reasons for the success of Spanish riders:
– The system currently in place in Spain to promote young talents is working incredibly well. We have many circuits, we have extraordinary weather, we have very professional teams that have excellent support. All these ingredients contribute to success.
They are difficult factors to combine, but the results are evident: Spanish presence in the World Championships has been growing more and more. For example: when in 1999 Álex Crivillé became the first Spanish rider to be crowned champion in the premier class, the field had only five riders from the country full-time. In 2023 there were ten.
