Ready to start a new adventure in the World Superbike Championship, after nine years with Kawasaki, Jonathan Rea recalled how after five years as the ‘reference’, and other less positive moments that followed, he needed new challenges. The affection for the Japanese manufacturer, he assures, will always remain.
Nine years and six world titles later, Rea recalled, to the official WSBK website: ‘From 2015 to 2020, I really feel that we were the benchmark. Of course, there were also some difficult moments that have become more recent in the last few years. Now, at this point in my life, I need something new‘.With many years at the helm of the Ninja ZX-10R, some of the most victorious of his career, Rea admits that despite the switch to Yamaha in 2024, what he experienced for almost a decade has left strong marks on him:
– There will always be a part of my blood that is green. It doesn’t cease to exist because I am changing colors [teams].
