Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia and Celestino Vietti share Valentino Rossi’s Ranch track outside the MotoGP world championship and therefore have a very special relationship. Vietti, who will face a new challenge in Moto2 in 2024, hopes that the ‘cycle’ of his friend and compatriot has finally begun, after the validation of the world title.
In a conversation with Corriere Torino, Vietti recalled the last round of the world championship, at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, where Bagnaia’s clarity was very evident, even in the face of the great challenges ahead: ‘There was a pleasant atmosphere in Valencia. We could see that Pecco had very clear ideas. He demonstrated great speed by winning the last GP and clinching the world title. I think among his main qualities are tranquility and awareness of his abilities, as shown by never getting into difficulties even when the fight with [Jorge] Martín became very tough’.
The title that Bagnaia confirmed, Vietti hopes, could be an important step towards what will happen in the coming years, especially after seeing intense rivalry push him to a very high level:
– I hope Pecco’s cycle has begun, even though his reconfirmation is never easy. He took a beating in Barcelona, but proved to be the strongest in many aspects this season. After this triumph, he will be even more aware of his abilities and I am sure he will return to the track next year with even more desire to win.
