In 2024, MotoGP will have a new concessions system, which currently favors Honda and Yamaha after their recent struggles. KTM opposed the idea but ended up voting in favor.
At the same time, the Austrian manufacturer was actively seeking a spot for a second satellite team – which they ultimately did not secure. However, they never used this desire as a “bargaining chip” to approve the concessions. This assurance was given to The-Race.com by the sports director, Pit Beirer:
– We didn’t say ‘we want this spot because [in exchange] we could give concessions to someone’. We really said ‘we want this spot because we believe we deserve it for our efforts in this paddock’. […]. There were never any discussions between us and Dorna to say ‘if you want the concessions, we need this spot’.
