Many are the riders who end their contract this end of the year and not even the current (and double) MotoGP world champion is free from it but… that may not be the case for the Italian for much longer.
Gigi Dall’Igna spoke with MotoSprint about various topics and one of the topics discussed was the priority that the manufacturer from Borgo Panigale has in wanting to continue with #1, as explained, quoted by Motosan: ‘It is important that everyone performs well in the first races. For us, the priority is to reach an agreement with Pecco as quickly as possible and announce the renewal before the start of the championship, so that both he and we can race freely, focused only on the goal of the World Championship. Otherwise, we will wait a little bit’.
The manager has not forgotten the most recent curriculum of the Italian, who managed to give two titles to Ducati in 2022 and 2023, something that had only happened once before in 2007 with Casey Stoner: ‘Pecco is a consecutive two-time world champion, very few have achieved this feat’.
Enea Bastianini does not seem to already have this consensus for quick renewal, with a spot next to Pecco currently “available”, with Jorge Martín currently being one of the top candidates for that position.
