Miguel Oliveira finished the MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix practice in 19th place, which means he will have to go through the first qualifying phase in Sepang. The CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team rider even reached the top five, but was unable to keep up with the pace of the frontrunners in the final part of the session.
With his first timed lap, the Almada rider placed himself in 14th, but immediately went faster than in the first free practice. Despite improving his time, he dropped to 19th. After just two laps, he entered the pits.
After a few minutes in the garage, Oliveira returned to the track with two medium tires on the Aprilia and immediately improved to 12th and then to third. Before returning to the pits, he dropped to fourth.
In the second half hour, #88 started a new sequence of laps with two medium tires. Without improving on this outing, he dropped to fifth place due to Maverick Viñales’ (Aprilia) improvement.
During his time in the garage, Oliveira was overtaken by several riders, dropping out of the top ten. It was only in the last six minutes that the Portuguese rider started a new series of laps. However, he was unable to improve and was relegated to 19th position. He was 1.327s slower than leader Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati).
