Since losing its satellite team in MotoGP after 2022, Yamaha has reiterated more than once that it wants to have one again in the future – and for a much closer collaboration. At the moment, Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Racing Team is one of the teams whose contract with the current supplier ends in late 2024 and is the main target of the Iwata manufacturer.
The managing director of Yamaha, Massimo Meregalli, spoke about the subject to GPOne.com: ‘It is one of our goals and its management will be different from what we had in the past, when we simply provided motorcycles. The idea we have now is to have a direct synergy with the satellite team to work together’.
Regarding the possible candidates for the satellite team, the Italian expressed a clear preference: ‘Certainly the first team we would choose would be Valentino’s, he is a Yamaha ambassador and our relationship is well known’.
