The start with Yamaha in the World Superbike Championship was not positive for Jonathan Rea, who had many difficulties throughout the weekend, eventually suffering a fall on Sunday during race 2, causing the red flag to be raised and the rider not being in condition to restart. The rider even considered that he was ‘in the middle of shit’ on the Australian circuit.
17th in race 1, 10th in Superpole and a fall in race 2, being unable to race in the restart, were more than enough reasons for the weekend not to have gone well, with the British rider saying he did everything: ‘We tried everything. At Yamaha, we are an open catalog. We can choose what we want, but most riders are the same. Throughout the tests, I preferred some parts of the chassis different from ‘Loka’, but this weekend we started with what the team considers to be the best for tire consumption, grip, and all the characteristics of Phillip Island’.
As for his performance, Rea did not hesitate to speak deeply about his feelings: ‘I am as confused as everyone else in the box; We are lost and it is frustrating. In Jerez, the bike worked fantastically, at race pace with all the riders, I could compete for a podium. In Portimão, not so much and we were floating between the top five. Here, we are in the middle of shit’.
