Marc Márquez will represent Gresini in MotoGP in 2024, but despite being a six-time champion in the premier class, he will have this year’s Ducati Desmosedici GP23 instead of the updated version for the next season.
A scenario that may seem illogical considering the potential and status of the rider – even if throughout the last season, the previous year’s bikes did not show a performance much different from the current ones.
Gigi Dall’Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, clarified to the AS newspaper the reason why Márquez will not have the GP24: ‘There is no possibility of carrying out this idea because everything happened too late. It was useless to think about something like that‘.
It is worth remembering that the Spanish rider only decided to leave Repsol Honda and join Gresini in October – a late and unexpected move in the rider market.
In the same interview, Dall’Igna emphasized: ‘It must be taken into account that Marc does not have a contract with Ducati. He has a contract with Gresini and we are not involved in this type of reasoning. But from what I see, Marc is one of the most important riders in the history of world motorcycling. Period‘.
