Ducati is the most represented constructor in the current MotoGP field, with eight motorcycles: two from the satellite team and six distributed among three satellite teams. Because of this, they have many more possibilities to test and experiment with solutions, even during the Grand Prix races, which only favors a already very fast Desmosedici GP. Massimo Rivola, executive director of Aprilia Racing, contests the great number of Ducati motorcycles in MotoGP.
The executive, quoted by the website SPEEDWEEK.com, said that the RS-GP will improve, but it remains to be seen how that compares to the other constructors: ‘The bike for next year has to be better, and there is no reason to doubt that. So the question will be: how much better will KTM get, how much will Ducati improve, with the advantage they already have? And Yamaha. What they showed in Sepang was a bit worrying. They will receive concessions and we will have to let them do that, but I seem a bit stupid, because why would we do that? But the biggest problem is that we have eight super fast Ducatis in the field‘.
Aprilia wants to be at least the second constructor in the hierarchy, but Rivola emphasized that with eight motorcycles on track, Ducati has many advantages in terms of development and preparation of the bike. The Italian admitted that there shouldn’t be allowed to have so many motorcycles: ‘I don’t want to offend anyone, because they did it and we didn’t. The problem is that it shouldn’t be allowed. That’s what I tell Carmelo every day [Ezpeleta, executive director of Dorna]. I’m not saying they’re wrong. They did it, they invested a lot – and wisely. But it’s not good for the Championship‘.
