Opinions on MotoGP Sprint races continue to be divided at the end of a season, with some figures in the championship opposing the format. This is the case with two-time world champion Casey Stoner.
In an interview with TNT Sports, the former rider emphasized that the premier class may not be progressing: ‘There is so much going on that people think it’s moving forward. But they need to slow down. There hasn’t been a single race this year with all the riders in their positions. That tells you that there is too much happening. I feel like we are constantly trying to emulate Formula 1, except we have much more electronics‘.
Stoner believes that the differences from the premier class of motorsport are too great to follow all the examples: ‘We don’t need to emulate Formula 1. We created the races because our bikes are narrow and you can fit eight in a corner. You can’t do that in F1. We shouldn’t try to copy them with Sprint races. Let them be what they are. They would have the same riders in their positions every week‘.
