Sprint races arrived in MotoGP in 2023, awarding half the points of the main races and being contested in all rounds – the exception was the Australian GP, which could not take place due to the weather conditions.
The final championship standings would have been different if there were no Sprint races. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) would still be the champion, but with 327 points (he scored 467). Interestingly, the gap to the runner-up, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati), would have been larger: 67 points. The Spanish rider was dominant in the Sprint races, winning nine and being the only one to score points on Saturdays.
Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team/Ducati) would still be the third-placed rider. The only change in the top five would be Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac/Ducati) in fourth and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) in fifth – a reversal of positions compared to the actual championship.
A total of 29 riders scored points in the main races – including wildcard and replacement riders. With only three points, Cal Crutchlow (Yamalube RS4GP) would close this classification. Among regular riders, replacement riders, and wildcards, only three did not score points: Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati), Iker Lecuona (LCR Honda and Repsol Honda Team), and Takumi Takahashi (LCR Honda).
As for Miguel Oliveira (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team/Aprilia), he finished 15th considering only the main races.
