Marco Bezzecchi had a 2023 MotoGP season that was a statement, finishing third in the Championship with two wins in main races. The VR46 Racing Team rider also went through less good phases, particularly the injury suffered in a collarbone during a training session at Valentino Rossi’s Ranch a few days before the Indonesian GP.
In an interview with SPEEDWEEK.com, the Italian spoke about the good moments of the past year… including that injury among them: ‘There were very good moments, fortunately there were many pleasant ones. Certainly the victory in India [Sprint race] was beautiful. But I would also say that in the end the injury brought me good moments. After getting injured, there was a real escalation of emotions: at the beginning, of course, despair. But then I was totally motivated, I wanted to be operated on right away – and I went straight to the gym without even being at home; the lightning-fast comeback… it was four intense days, but when I remember now, they were also good‘.
Asked to explain why he includes the injury among the good moments, Bezzecchi stated: ‘Of course, it wasn’t good to hurt myself. But everything that happened afterwards was unbelievable. At 8:00 p.m. the decision was made for me to try, the next morning I went to Bologna for an examination with Dr. Porcellini, then I went to Milan and I only arrived at the track at 8:00 a.m. on Friday… it was a truly absurd story – and that’s why it was good‘.
