Aerodynamics are becoming increasingly popular in MotoGP motorcycles, and it is increasingly common to see new solutions – sometimes peculiar, like the rear wings that have been proliferating. Enea Bastianini, a Ducati rider, spoke about the subject and warned about the risks that aerodynamics represent.
The Italian told La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper that aerodynamics reduce the margin of error and complicate the task of the riders: ‘Let’s say it has become very difficult to always brake in the same place, and in the race you have to consider thousands of variables; the bikes are very fast, so the reaction time has to be, how to say, premature! Due to aerodynamics, it is easy to make mistakes and when you are behind another rider, there is a risk of colliding with them; this happened to me in Barcelona, but it also happened to other riders during the 2023 season. In addition to this, it has become very difficult to overtake‘.
Bastianini emphasized that the level of danger is also high, but admitted that it will not be easy to mitigate the problems: ‘I don’t know how to give advice to an engineer to solve these problems; I don’t think it’s easy, but it can certainly be dangerous for us riders‘.
