The first stage of the Dakar was marked by an incident with a spectator, who suffered an open fracture in the tibia and fibula in one of his legs. The incident even forced the start of the stage for the cars to be delayed.
The news is reported by Agência Lusa, conveyed by the SAPO portal. The fan, of Russian nationality, was hit by a vehicle in the race. The race director, David Castera, explained that the person positioned themselves in the middle of the track and, when the car approached, became nervous and changed direction twice. The collision was unavoidable.
The driver of the car immediately stopped for assistance and the spectator – who entered a prohibited area twice – was transported to a hospital for surgery.
