There is no doubt that Zero Motorcycles is one of the pioneers in the world of electric motorcycles. The California-based company has been manufacturing electric motorcycles long before they became popular, and currently, it is reaping the benefits tenfold. Zero motorcycles have repeatedly proven their capabilities in the current demanding and ever-changing mobility scenario, and on the enthusiast side, Zero is one of the main players.
It is largely thanks to its continuous innovation that the company continues to maintain the top spot in the e-motorcycle market. In France, for example, the company is targeting off-road and adventure enthusiasts with the launch of the DSR/X Black Forest edition, scheduled for this year. Based on the premium adventure model DSR/X, which recently completed the grueling Maudes Trophy in the UK, the Black Forest edition brings a series of premium additions that make it a more capable adventure model.
Before we analyze these features, however, let’s first take a look at its technical specifications. To start, it is based on the standard DSR/X model and is equipped with Zero’s Z-Force 75-10X motor. It produces an impressive 100 hp of power throughout the rev range and offers an impressive 229 Nm of torque. This translates to an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.
As for the battery, Zero promises efficient performance and fast charging thanks to a 6.6 kW fast charger that charges the power cells in less than three hours. A range of 172 km is promised, with tests conducted on open highways and city streets. Other features include adjustable Showa suspension, J.Juan brakes, Bosch ABS, and Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires.
Going straight to the unique features of the Black Forest edition, we find a glossy black paint scheme that gives the motorcycle an elegant aesthetic. It has sturdy spoked wheels with tubeless tires and even comes with prominent enduro footpegs. Engine guards, frame protectors, and a touring windshield add a touch of safety and protection, while a comfortable seat keeps you comfortable on long kilometers, both on and off-road. Last but not least, the motorcycle is equipped with a complete set of luggage, consisting of a top case and side cases. Buyers in France will receive a free motorcycle cover and a gift box to enhance exclusivity.
Zero motorcycles have never been cheap, and the DSR/X Black Forest edition is no exception. It has a starting retail price of €26,720. However, the Black Forest edition has not yet been announced in any market outside of France.
