After a nine-season stay in the premier class, in which he rode for Suzuki, Honda, Aprilia, and Ducati. Before MotoGP, Álvaro Bautista was the world champion in the former 125cc category with Aprilia in 2006 and the runner-up in the 250cc world championship. Currently, the Spaniard is the reigning two-time champion in the Superbike World Championship.
The experienced athlete made a comparison between the two motorcycle categories.
‘Before, you had more options to control the bike. Now it’s more difficult because of aerodynamics, it requires changes in riding style. The bikes are more cumbersome in terms of movement. If you don’t know how to use aerodynamics, you’re lost. I liked it more when you could have better control over the situation,’ Bautista described in an interview with Motorsport-total.com, cited by Motosan.
‘In WSBK, it’s possible to control the bike with the rear, there’s good traction. In MotoGP, when you lose traction with the rear tire, you can’t recover. MotoGP has more power down low, but you have to be careful with the throttle. Here, the riders are driving at the highest level, there’s no doubt about that. Now, the riders are much closer, the bikes are much closer together. There’s a very high level in MotoGP,’ concluded the 39-year-old rider.
