It was one of the most talked-about subjects last season. We’re talking about the various episodes between Jorge Martín and Michelin tires, which reached their peak at the Qatar Grand Prix. The Madrid-born rider spoke about the issue and asked the French brand to improve the quality control of the tires.
‘I never attacked Michelin in that sense. In Valencia, we had some meetings and they told me that something wasn’t 100 percent right. But well, in the end, they have to protect themselves and besides, I can’t say much about this issue. Throughout the season, the whole paddock complained about the tires having defects. There are millions of euros invested in each brand’s projects. No matter how much money you spend, if you have a tire that doesn’t work, the project doesn’t work. They have to improve the quality control,’ emphasized the vice-world champion during the interview he gave to Europa Press.
A few weeks ago, Michelin Motorsport director, Piero Taramasso, assured that there were no anomalies with the set of tires Martín used on the Qatari track.
Martín finished the last edition of the MotoGP World Championship in second place, 51 points behind the winner and reigning champion of the premier class, Francesco Bagnaia.
‘I wasn’t expecting the Sprint races to be so positive for me. I was close to becoming a legend, nevertheless, I believe that I left my name and they recognize me as someone who gives everything,’ added Jorge, who also commented on the long calendar that riders have ahead season after season.
‘Es un deporte que requiere mucho esfuerzo físico, pero también mental. Sobre todo en relación a los viajes que están lejos de casa y con muchos días fuera, es difícil, pero es algo que no se puede controlar. Si tuviera que mejorar algo en relación al futuro, sería eso’, finalizó.
