Aprilia was the surprise of 2022 in MotoGP, finally entering the podium and victory contention – especially with Aleix Espargaró. Although not a constant presence in these positions, they achieved them again last year, also with Maverick Viñales, but the results fell somewhat short of expectations. Loris Reggiani, who represented Aprilia in the former 250cc and 500cc for several seasons, spoke about his expectations for the upcoming season.
Quoted by Motosan.es, the former rider argued that the Noale manufacturer may not be much different from 2023: ‘In my view, Aprilia’s role is destined to continue to be the same as last season, which, although it may sound bad to say, was a bit below 2022 when there was a long-held belief that Espargaró would try to win the World Championship’.
In Reggiani’s understanding, Aprilia does not have a problem with riders: ‘Many argue that it is also a matter of riders, that Aleix and Viñales are not suitable for aspiring to the title, but I think that in reality it is not like that. For me, it is quite clear – just as the Ducati is the best bike, the Aprilia is – and this is demonstrated by the fact that, on and off the track, all their riders are always fast’.
