On his birthday, Kevin Benavides had the task of opening the way in the fourth stage of the Dakar 2024 in the motorcycle category, after being the winner yesterday. Nevertheless, he achieved the third best time and is now fourth overall, 20m30s behind the leader, José Ignacio Cornejo (Monster Energy Honda).
The Argentinean rider from Red Bull KTM believes he had a good performance in this stage, but revealed that he had some concerns during part of the route:
– It was a good birthday, I did a good job. I really enjoyed opening the stage. However, the stage was fast – very fast – but with a lot of navigation, so I was very focused on my roadbook. Then, when I arrived at the refueling, I saw my rear tire and it had a big cut. After that, I tried to ride at a good pace. It was a bit scary, but I managed to finish. Everything is fine with the bike, so we continue.
