It was one of the most talked about topics last season. We are talking about the various episodes between Jorge Martín and Michelin tires, which reached their peak at the Qatar Grand Prix. The Madrid-born rider spoke about the issue and asked the French brand to improve the quality control of the tires.
‘I never attacked Michelin in that sense. In Valencia, we had some meetings and they told me that something was not 100 percent. But well, in the end they have to protect their backs and besides, I cannot express much opinion on this matter. Throughout the season, the whole group complained that the tires had defects. There are millions of euros invested in each brand’s projects. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend, if you have a tire that doesn’t work, the project doesn’t work. They have to improve the quality control’, emphasized the vice-world champion during the interview he gave to Europa Press.
A few weeks ago, the director of Michelin Motorsport, Piero Taramasso, assured that there was no anomaly with the set of tires that Martín used on the Qatari track.
Martín finished second in the last edition of the MotoGP World Championship, finishing 51 points behind the winner and reigning champion of the premier category, Francesco Bagnaia.
‘I was not expecting the Sprint races to be so positive for me. I was close to becoming a legend, nevertheless, I believe that I left my name and they recognize me as a person who gives everything’, added Jorge, who also commented on the long calendar that riders have ahead season after season.
‘It is a sport that requires a lot of physical effort, but also mental. Especially in relation to the trips that are far from home and with many days away, it is difficult, but it is something that cannot be controlled. If I had to improve something in relation to the future’, that would be it,’ he concluded.
