Stage 6 of this Dakar is completed, the first time it included a 48-hour marathon and with it came a new winner in the 2024 edition: Adrien Van Beveren.
The Frenchman who races with the colors of Monster Energy Honda Team was the first to complete the (long) stage – 209 km of liaison, with 626 km of Special – in 7h57m29s, which meant a difference of 4m13s to Toby Price (KTM), who made his podium debut in the current edition of the race.
Ricky Brabec (Honda) also made it to the podium, crossing the finish line with a delay of 5m02s compared to #42. Daniel Sanders was the best on a GASGAS (+6m55s), ahead of Ross Branch (Hero), with a delay of 9m40s compared to Beveren.
The winner of the 2023 race, Luciano Benavides (Husqvarna), finished sixth, ahead of his brother Kevin Benavides (KTM), with Stefab Svitko (Slonaft Rally Team) in eighth, ahead of the double winner already in this Dakar, in stages, Nacho Cornejo (Honda). Jeanlup Lepan (Duust Rally Team) closed the top ten of this marathon.
After today’s results, the Dakar has a new leader, with Ricky Brabec leading the race by 0m51s over Branch, with Beveren “jumping” to third place.
Note for this Saturday, where the riders will have their first rest day.
