He’s back! Chase Sexton pulled out all the stops and showed in San Francisco, under absolutely complicated conditions, that he is a strong candidate for the title this year. With a new team in 2024, Chase quickly took the lead and controlled the events since then.
The main event of the night started with the 2023 competition champion, Sexton, getting the holeshot, with the rider leading ahead of Eli Tomac and Adam Cianciarulo. Malcolm Stewart, Christian Craig, and Jason Anderson were part of a group of riders who crashed early on, in the first turn.
Sexton didn’t want to waste time and tried to escape right away, with Cianciarulo in second and Shane McElrath in third, under the watchful eye of Tomac and Ken Roczen, both overtaking those ahead of them and reaching the vice-leadership and third place in the race shortly after.
Tomac was determined not to let Sexton get away and quickly began to make up time, cutting the lead from eight to three seconds, but never close enough to try to overtake.
Jett Lawrence, winner of the first race, crashed shortly after and affected the #1, but Tomac was far behind and couldn’t take advantage.
In the end, Sexton confirmed his first victory of the year, with Tomac in second and Roczen reaching the podium places, which took last year’s champion to the first position in the overall standings.
