The Pan America 1250 was Harley-Davidson’s first adventure touring motorcycle and, in these first three years on the market, it had to first gain visibility, then be understood, and finally convince.
It is doing so in many ways, most recently with its exciting participation in the Africa Eco Race with Joan Pedrero, which led it to cross the finish line ahead of other specialized motorcycles. However, the Adventure Touring family may soon be enriched with a new model, the Pan America CVO. For those unfamiliar with the acronyms of the American brand, CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operations and is a range that spans across various motorcycle families, with the top models of each one being completely renewed in terms of style and performance. In fact, CVOs are special production bikes that sit at the top of Harley-Davidson’s price list, of course, but above all in terms of performance. But CVOs are not only equipped with the highest specifications and the best accessories, but they also generally have a larger displacement than the same “standard” model. However, this does not seem to be the case with the Pan America.
Some American media outlets have released information contained in the California Air Resources Board (CARB) homologation, among which a Pan America CVO appears, but with a 1,252 cc engine and, therefore, apparently identical to the version we already know. What changes in the documents, however, is the weight: if the standard Pan America weighs 258 kg (in the US it is declared 245 kg in running order), the new CVO is expected to be 20 kg heavier. This information leads us to assume that it is an even richer version, with clearly more accessories and may already have standard luggage equipment.
CVOs are also typically known for their more elaborate appearance, with more details and more appealing paint jobs, so it is very likely that if a Pan America CVO is confirmed, it will have a different look than what we are familiar with. We still don’t know if and when it will arrive, but we do know that Harley-Davidson has scheduled a special online event for January 24 to introduce some important new products. Who knows if the Pan America CVO will be among them.
