In 2024, MotoGP has an altered concessions system, in which the only manufacturer without any benefits is Ducati after their recent achievements. The main objective is to have a leveled playing field, and in particular, promote greater competitiveness from Honda and Yamaha after their decline in recent years.
Gigi Dall’Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, told Motorsport.com that he always agreed with this measure: ‘We were not against it. In fact, we have always been in favor of helping them. From my point of view, whenever a manufacturer is in trouble, it is fair to give them a hand to grow, to get closer to those who are winning. Yes, I am completely against giving concessions to Aprilia and KTM. The former won two races and the latter fought for the podium in almost every Grand Prix of the final phase of the season. I don’t understand why give them facilities’.
Nevertheless, Ducati let the renewed concessions system pass, and Dall’Igna explained the reason: ‘We accepted the concessions because we thought it was more important to help Yamaha and Honda than to oppose the advantages that Aprilia and KTM have. If Honda decided to leave the Championship, it would be a problem for everyone. To help Yamaha and Honda, we had to accept concessions for the others, that’s why we signed’.
