The incident happened with only 12km covered, and the Sherco rider from Trás-os-Montes was transported by air to a hospital in Al ‘Ula to be examined.
With two top ten results, and coming from two 11th positions in the previous stages, Gonçalves was the second best Portuguese in the overall standings, occupying the 24th position – only behind António Maio (Drag’on Rally Team/Yamaha) who was in 18th.
