Prince Harry confirms he and Meghan Markle have no plans to return to the UK, citing safety concerns and a better future for their children in the US.
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, revealed during the DealBook Summit in New York on Wednesday that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, have decided against returning to the United Kingdom. Speaking candidly about their life in the United States, Harry emphasized the importance of safety and a secure environment for their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
“I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here,” the 40-year-old royal said, adding that their California home provides opportunities for their family that they “undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK.”
A New Life in California
Since stepping back from royal duties and relocating to Montecito, California, in 2020, the Sussexes have carved out a new life far from the spotlight of British royal life. Harry noted that his focus remains on “being the best husband and the best dad that I can be.”
While Harry spoke on stage at the summit, Meghan sent a message of support to guests at a charity carol concert in London. The Duchess, a patron of Smart Works, expressed her continued dedication to empowering women through the organization, despite her physical absence from the UK.
Breaking Away from Royal Constraints
The Duke also touched on broader issues, including his views on children and social media, advocating for greater transparency and accountability for tech companies. Harry rejected the idea of banning social media for children, arguing that such a move would create family conflicts and alienate young users.
Harry and Meghan have been vocal about their struggles with royal life, previously detailing the challenges they faced, including concerns over Meghan’s safety and well-being. In interviews and Harry’s memoir, Spare, the couple highlighted how their experiences in the UK led them to seek a more independent path.
Looking Ahead
The couple remains active in philanthropy, with Harry preparing for the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver, where Grammy-nominated pop star Katy Perry will headline the opening ceremony. This event marks a continuation of their joint and individual efforts to make a difference on the global stage.
As the Sussexes settle further into their American life, Harry’s latest comments underscore their commitment to building a secure and fulfilling future for their family in the US.
