The world of action cameras and motorcycles go hand in hand, which seems to have led the world’s largest action camera brand, GoPro, to want a greater presence in the segment through the acquisition of motorcycle helmet manufacturer Forcite.
Forcite is a brand of connected helmets, which means that their helmets come already equipped with the type of technology and auxiliary systems that would normally require to be purchased and assembled separately. This means that elements such as a front visor (HUD), a chin-mounted camera, and Bluetooth connectivity (which provides music and audio directions) are all available.
It doesn’t take much imagination to understand where GoPro wants to go with this, and in addition to using GoPro’s famous camera and cloud storage technology, the company’s press release explains that a series of co-branded helmets may be on the way.
“In addition to our plan to develop our own line of helmets branded with GoPro, we are excited about the possibility of partnering with other leading helmet brands to help technologically equip their own helmet lines,” the press release reads. “We have great respect for established brands and look forward to working with them to help drive the industry forward together.”
