The first MotoGP presentation for 2024 took place yesterday, and it was already the most impactful debut of the year, with Marc Márquez riding a Ducati. And it is precisely all this attention that Álex hopes to see throughout the season, although personally there are positive aspects for him.
When asked about the performance and approach he expects from Marc, Álex mentioned that given his greater experience and comfort with the bike, it could work in his favor: ‘With the approach he said he will adopt, I hope to be ahead of him. But not only during the phase when he will adopt a calmer approach. As I have already said, it will be very important for me to have a teammate like him, from whom I can learn a lot’.
And he continued: ‘Especially this year, because it is my second year with this bike and his first, so we will be quite balanced and it will be important to take advantage of that to raise our level. That being said, he is very intelligent and, in a championship with 22 races, he knows how to approach it in his first year with this bike’.
Regarding whether having his brother as a teammate can have many positive aspects, it can also be less positive, Álex responded: ‘There are good things, in terms of setup for the races: he is your brother and you have confidence to ask things, and the “dark” side of that is the team’s and people’s expectations. We are very calm in the garage and during the races, but it is equally important for the team to have those expectations from people, sponsors, and everything. It will be a more difficult side, but I believe we can approach it, control it in a positive way’.
