The format of the Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships has been slightly changed for the new season. There are still three practice sessions, with the same duration, but the first one – on Friday morning – will be free.
Last year, the riders in the two MotoGP access categories had to worry about the combined table and direct access to the second phase of qualifying right from the first session. Therefore, they had little time to work without the pressure of the stopwatch.
This Monday, the championship organization announced that in 2024 there will be a first free practice on Friday morning – 35 minutes in Moto3 and 40 minutes in Moto2 – whose lap times do not count to determine those directly qualified for Q2. These calculations will only be made through the second and third practices.
