KTM tested a novelty in their RC16 in 2023, with both factory team riders testing the carbon frame. However, there is still no certainty about when the GASGAS Tech3 riders will also have the same equipment. Hervé Poncharal expressed confidence that this could happen very soon.
In an interview with Paddock-GP, the owner of Tech3 was asked about the possibility of seeing his duo of riders also having the same material as Jack Miller and Brad Binder, and responded as follows: ‘Regarding the technical aspect, we are relatively confident, but this still needs to be confirmed by the competition department of Pierer Mobility. However, we are relatively confident that the four riders, that is, the two KTM – Brad Binder and Jack Miller – and the two GASGAS Tech3 – Augusto Fernández and Pedro Acosta – should be able to benefit from the carbon chassis’.
Still without a date for this, Poncharal believes it could happen as early as the beginning of February: ‘Will it be at the Sepang test or later? I am confident that we will be able to have them already in Sepang, but in any case, it seems that this chassis will improve the sensations and performance of the riders. It is much more complicated to build and manage in terms of maintenance, but the decision has been made that the four riders will be able to have this type of equipment’.
And he continued: ‘Binder and Miller did what we call the back-to-back, the comparison between the two. Augusto Fernández and Pedro Acosta have not done it yet, but if they approve, all four riders should have carbon chassis, which leaves us very satisfied and gives us the guarantee that in 2024, all four riders will have the same technical status, the same technical support, and the same development in chronological terms’.
