Pointed out as one of the future stars in the world of two-wheeled racing, David Alonso has projected the next season in the Moto3 World Championship. In 2023, the Colombian-born Spaniard was named Rookie of the Year after winning four races and finishing the season in third place with a total of 245 points.
‘I came from a difficult year and wanted to take things calmly. At the age of five, I rode a motorcycle for the first time. From then on, I started watching races on TV and became interested in this world. At six or seven years old, everyone saw this as a hobby, but not me. I imitated everything the riders did,’ recalled the young rider in statements to Motosport cited by Motosan.es.
Son of a Spanish father and Colombian mother, David ended up choosing Colombian nationality.
‘I had to choose and I thought of my mother. I am very proud to represent the flag of the country where she was born. My grandparents live in Colombia and they say that my name is starting to be talked about more intensely. I didn’t expect so much support, there are starting to be several motorcycle fans. Currently, Spain and Italy are the two biggest training schools,’ he said.
‘Due to my riding style, I will be a bit like Marc Márquez, because I brake strongly and also because of my character, I am a bit like him,’ he added.
The GASGAS Aspar Team rider nurtures the dream of one day reaching the pinnacle of the premier class. ‘Before reaching MotoGP, I would like to win in the other categories, that is, not move up a category without winning first. If I don’t win the title before, I wouldn’t want to move up a category,’ he declared.
