Marco Bezzecchi is about to enter his third season in MotoGP. The rider continues with the VR46 Racing Team and riding a Ducati – which, although different from last year’s, is a factor of continuity.
When asked if the experience of being in the premier class for the third year will allow him to take advantage of the stability he has, the Italian replied: ‘I only had one day riding the new bike, which is very different from the bike I had last season. Anyway, it is a very competitive bike. Of course, the GP23 won the World Championship, so it is certainly a fantastic bike. I just need more time on it to try to better understand how to ride it and how to use its maximum potential. But I also have more experience compared to last year. I try to grow and learn every year. I will try my best to be competitive from the beginning of the season, but I still want to wait for the pre-season test in Malaysia to understand how I will be on the bike’.
One of Bezzecchi’s weaknesses is the start, and although he admits that the holeshot device of the GP23 could help him, the rider emphasized that he also needs to work to be better: ‘The device is, of course, a bit different from what I had last year. It is certain that it will give an advantage, but the bike doesn’t start on its own; I need to improve, I need to work on the clutch, I need to try to improve on the starts because it is a weakness I had last year. But we have been working on this since the first time in MotoGP, so step by step I am getting better. I am sure I will learn how to start faster. But with this setup, it will certainly be a little better, I hope’.
