Piaggio unveiled several new models at EICMA, including a sleek and modern scooter: the Liberty, a distinctive and functional model offered in two configurations.
New design, the same spirit
Originally launched 27 years ago, the Liberty has been a global success, with over a million units sold. Though fully redesigned, it retains the essence that made it so popular. The scooter features elegant Italian lines and a new, more dynamic and sporty front, including a new horizontal LED headlight.
The central tie now has a honeycomb-style grille, connecting the Liberty’s look to that of the Beverly and Medley models. Compact side lines elegantly stretch to the rear, where the scooter now sports a new aluminum element in place of the former passenger handles.
The ergonomic triangle (seat, handlebar, and foot positioning) has also been redesigned, providing better comfort and control. The handlebar is set higher and raised. Riders now enjoy a new fully digital, five-inch color LCD instrument panel displaying essential data.
State of the art chassis and engine
The new Piaggio Liberty is available in three versions: 50cc, 125cc, and 150cc. All versions feature air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke engines. The 50cc version is light and agile, ideal for younger riders. An ECU manages ignition timing, mixture, and phasing maps. The engine complies with Euro 5+ emission standards, and the transmission is an automatic CVT.
With extensive experience in scooter frames, Piaggio has equipped the Liberty with a tubular steel frame that is robust yet light, ensuring easy handling and maneuverability. Its generous wheelbase provides stability and safety at any speed. The wheels are 16 inches at the front and 14 inches at the rear.
The braking system includes a front disc with a two-piston caliper, while the rear features a drum brake. The 125cc and 150cc versions come with ABS. The suspension system includes a telescopic fork at the front and an aluminum swingarm-controlled shock absorber at the rear.
Two different versions
Each of the three engine sizes of the new Piaggio Liberty is available in two versions: the Liberty, in white Bianco Luna and black Nero Abisso; and the Liberty S, which comes in Bianco Luna, black Nero Meteora, grey Grigio Materia, and blue Blu Ardesia.
