KTM keeps open the possibility of having six bikes in MotoGP, but Dorna is clear: to achieve it, they will have to find a satellite team among those that currently compete, since the grid will not grow until the end of 2026.
The guarantee was given by the CEO of the promoting entity, Carmelo Ezpeleta, in an interview with Marca newspaper: ‘We don’t want to increase the number of slots and we have already told KTM that the way to go is to reach an agreement with one of the existing teams. And that’s what they will do, I imagine. We will not increase the number until 2027, for sure‘.
And even if there is a new manufacturer wanting to enter, Ezpeleta does not consider the growth of the grid as certain: ‘If a manufacturer were to come… it depends on how they come. It could be a manufacturer to whom you say they do the same as Aprilia did at the beginning, which was to have a franchise with Gresini. Or have a franchise with a commitment as a manufacturer, but that would always be within another period‘.
