In 2027, MotoGP will have new regulations, which will be finalized this year. From engines to aerodynamics, much can change in the next generation of motorcycles, although nothing has been decided yet, according to Dorna’s CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta.
The Spanish CEO was asked by Marca newspaper about the possibility of reducing the engine displacement to 850 cubic centimeters, confirming that there is a high probability of it happening: ‘It is quite possible. It is not certain yet. Every five years, we negotiate with the manufacturers – more than negotiate, we ask for their opinion and they usually have it in common in all things. If there are things that are not very common, and in which we have a clear criterion, we make our proposal and they return it. It is certain that in 2024 we will already have the 2027 regulations finalized‘.
If the engine displacement is not yet certain to change, there is one aspect that is unavoidable: the reduction of motorcycle aerodynamics will indeed happen, guaranteed Ezpeleta – in addition to emphasizing that the height adjustment devices will have limitations: ‘If not eliminated… we wanted them to be eliminated. We will see what happens, but they will reduce a lot, yes‘.
