The world of motorcycling is once again in mourning. Garry Taylor, who became known as the team manager of Suzuki in the former premier class of the World Speed Championship, 500cc, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 74.
The news of his death is reported by SPEEDWEEK.com. It was in 1987 that the British man joined the Hamamatsu manufacturer, working with riders like Kevin Schwantz and Kenny Roberts. Under Taylor’s leadership, Kenny Roberts Jr. became the 500cc champion in 2000… defeating Valentino Rossi, who thus saw the conquest of his first title in the premier category postponed.
After the start of the MotoGP era, Taylor remained in the paddock until 2004, being at the time the longest-serving team manager. Before that, in the 1970s, he had already been in the public relations department of Suzuki in the 500cc, witnessing the manufacturer’s first titles with Barry Sheene.
Revista Motociclismo expresses heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Garry Taylor.
