When we talk about pollution, we mostly think of air pollution, but there are many other forms of pollution – to which motorized vehicles contribute to a greater or lesser extent.
Noise pollution is one of them. Harmful to human health, more and more measures are being taken to mitigate it as much as possible, and therefore the design of new motorcycles has to take stricter regulations into account.
Alexander Buckan, chief designer at BMW Motorrad, explained to the website Motorrad Online that this is becoming an ever-greater challenge, requiring creativity to deal with:
– The noise requirements placed on a motorcycle are becoming increasingly challenging. And that is why it is important for me to ideally package larger silencer volumes. You can already see the trend for such silencer volume to be divided into a front silencer and a rear silencer. As a designer, you need the flexibility to be open and to deal with this situation in a creative way.
