BMW has been a partner of MotoGP for several years, providing the official safety car. However, it has not yet taken the step to enter the premier category as a participating constructor – although it has a factory team in the Superbike World Championship.
The Bavarian brand’s name has been associated with a possible arrival of a new constructor in the future. Nothing has been confirmed and, when asked by the newspaper Marca if BMW is the manufacturer closest to joining MotoGP, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta remained tight-lipped.
The Spaniard stated: ‘We don’t say anything to anyone. The constructors know how the World Championship is, what we do, and they decide whether to come or not. At the moment, we have nothing.’
