Even before Race 2 of WSBK at Phillip Island, the Superpole race took place and there were plenty of reasons to celebrate: four years later, Alex Lowes returned to victory in the category, and Toprak Razgatlioglu achieved his first podium with BMW.
Almost like a replica of Race 1, Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) had a great start and initially led the Superpole race. However, on the first corner of the second lap, Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) overtook him.
The Italian, in fact, ended up having bad luck: his Ducati had a mechanical problem from the sixth lap, which significantly delayed him in the race.
Alex Lowes thus had a clear path to secure his first victory in four years, ending a long drought, finishing the race ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha), while Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) finished third, achieving his first podium with the German manufacturer in only his second race.
