Marc Márquez is, without any dispute, one of the reference riders in the current MotoGP. With six world titles in the premier category and eight in total, he stands out for his aggressive and persistent character – always pushing the limit and sometimes going beyond it. According to Chicho Lorenzo, this is also what has already harmed him.
Jorge Lorenzo’s father stated on Nico Abad’s Twitch channel: ‘In Márquez, there are many things I admire and others that I don’t like at all. That character has its negative side, like what happened in Jerez in 2020. He could have won the race without any problems, but he wanted, in some way, to make a tremendous difference. And I think that’s what made him lose. He made a series of decisions that didn’t help him in his recovery’.
For Chicho Lorenzo, the constant crashes – although they haven’t always compromised results – are a problem for Márquez: ‘The weak point I see in Marc is this way of understanding competition by always falling. In 2023, he set a record and what was he fighting for? For nothing, zero. Everyone had understood the message that the Honda wasn’t working. So, where is its limit? That’s where I see Marc’s problem; if he doesn’t slow down, he will hurt himself’.
