Pedro Acosta continues to make headlines. After being the fastest in the MotoGP shakedown in Sepang, the Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rookie finished second on the first day of testing at the same circuit – 0.269s behind the leader, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati).
This Tuesday, the Spanish rider already tested new components on the KTM RC16, but more importantly, he highlighted the consistency and improvements in race pace: ‘I was happy to test. It was good. The best thing for me is that every time I go on track, we are at the same level as the previous day, automatically. And we are also improving our pace. That was very important for me because on the second day of the shakedown we were more or less in the 2m00s in race pace, and now we are able to be within the 1m59s.’
Regarding testing new components, Acosta commented: ‘Speaking about testing new things, they want me to test, they put it on the bike, and I test it. It’s part of the job, but I wasn’t really thinking about it. In the end, it’s not my job right now, I just have to stay focused on growing every day and improving every time I go out on track with the bike.’
The #31 also clarified: ‘We are trying out things, but only for me – to understand how to ride the bike behind other bikes, trying to understand how to be fast in making changes to the electronics. Because when you have a good base, the difference between going to Q1 or Q2 is how quickly you can make the changes from FP1 to the afternoon session. We are just trying to understand these things to be as prepared as possible before the Qatar GP.’
